An Introduction to Bryan Pearce

Bryan Pearce was born and bred in St Ives. He suffered from a congenital disease, Phenylketonuria, which affects the development of the brain.

His school years were hampered due to his condition, and it wasn’t until he was in his early twenties that his mother, an artist herself, encouraged Bryan to paint. He began painting with watercolour and progressed on to oil paint whilst attending St Ives School of Painting.

With fellow artist and sculptor Denis Mitchell’s guidance, Bryan Pearce joined the Penwith Society of Artists and Newlyn Society of Artists in 1959 and from then on, his work was shown in galleries and museums in London and across the country.
